While I understand the market situation is different in the states, there is just no place for publically owned or operated super markets. Margins are absolutely terrible, and are offset by big ticket items that this is specifically designed to avoid. The alternative is a circular kickback scheme enjoyed by larger retailers, which only pays off by virtual of scale. Five stores in the same area is not scaling for kickback deals. So these stores have no path to profitability to begin with - and turn you can compound municipal / union wages to the problem. So these are going to be (by default) poorly managed stores w/o the ability to compete on price and with no profitablity strategy & with higher than average labour costs

This will cause private groceries in the area to shut down as they will be unable to compete. A food desert will be the end result as the government stores will not be able to make up for the loss of private stores. He says he will pay for his programs by making the elite pay more. Thing is a rent freeze will bring down property value meaning lower revenue through property tax. A rent freeze can also cost income so any increase in a tax percentage will be offset by a lower income to base that percentage off. The only way to speed up the busses would be to remove other vehicles from the roads or have less stops on each route.
