The Israeli attack on the Islamic Republic last fall reportedly targeted critical infrastructure for producing rocket fuel. The port explosion seems to support that claim. The rumor is that IRGC has been forced to buy rocket fuel from China, which was stored in this port.

Possible. But Iran is gonna endure and find other ways. And when the theocracy falls it isn't gonna be replaced with Californian or European liberalism.

It's gonna be replace with a disenfranchised, isolated, highly educated, secular populist movement that's going to be much more competent and just as 'disagreeable'.

Israel should probably start to concern itself more with China though.

Odds are it will just be another islamist movement. Likely a more violent and repressive one.

The hardliners have forked into more pragmatic ”we need to survive” and the crazies. Reformists were always fake but they have largely ceased to exist.

I don’t think the crazies can win a power struggle. And the way things are going whether they get bombed or Trumpinated with a deal, the Islamic Republic is not surviving as it once was. The name may linger on. Economy is in the toilet, Hezbollah gone, Syria lost. Missile production diminished. Population so hostile, an ungodly amount of people want Israel to attack. Reza Pahlavi is the single most popular leader figure inside Iran. There is no road back.

Yes but murder has absolutely zero understanding of Iran as a country it of the culture & people.

I think the 'we need to survive' segment becomes the educated, 21st century version of 1930s Germany. Not ideologically, but similarly in so much as reassertion of identity and capability.

This is all still a decent ways off, any of it. Islamic Republic isn't dead just yet.

I understand that when order collapses, those most willing to engage in extreme violence tend to have an advantage.
